Dear Neighbors,
I hope everyone got to enjoy the nicer summer weather we had the last few days.  I think the heat and humidity are set to come back.  We had a lovely evening and a nice showing of at least 40+ people for the "National Night Out" in Laurel Knoll Circle on Tuesday night.  Our Mayor and the Collierville Chief of Police stopped by to visit and mingle.  Several other police officers and special duty officers stopped by to spend some time with us.  We served Snow Cones and Pizza, does it get any better than that?  I want to thank Rosalie Johnson and her Social Committee for putting it all together for us.
I hate to report that we have lost two of our neighbors in the last few weeks.  Robert Tisdale (1672 Laurel Knoll Circle) passed away while vacationing in Montana near the end of last month.  His wife, Terinell, was with him when he died.  Then their next door neighbor, Jackie Freeman (1668 Laurel Knoll Circle) had a heart attack and died a few days later on August 1.  Her husband, Barney, was with her when she passed.  If you see any of these folks, please pass on your condolences and keep them in your prayers.  If you wish to offer any assistance, please let them know, but respect their privacy as much as possible.
Some of the trees are beginning to drop their leaves already.  I would like to see if we can get some volunteers on Saturday, Aug 16th, to help me go around and trim many of the dead and low hanging branches.  We will meet in the center circle at noon and it should only take an hour or two if you can offer any assistance.  Bring your pole tree trimmer or pole saw along.  We may put a pile of branches in the front or back of your home (depending on where the trash is picked up on your street) but it should only be until Monday’s pickup by Collierville.
There has been an interest in another Bourbon Tasting to be held in the neighborhood.  We will plan to hold it at 7 PM in the Big Circle on Laurel Lane on Friday night, August 15th.  Bring a glass and chair and your favorite Bourbon to share tastes with the other connoisseurs.  We will provide some snacks, water and ice and lights.  I don’t think we we need to have a fire pit going for this as it will be hot enough already.  Ladies and Gents are more than welcome to attend.
School is starting again, so watch out for the traffic increasing and the school kids on the streets and sidewalks.  Not sure when the new traffic lights will be up and running, but it looks like it should be pretty soon.  This will definitely add some strain to our entering and leaving the neighborhood.  This will be even more so when school traffic is starting in the morning and ending in the afternoons, plus sport events.  Take your time and drive carefully.  Please.
I am still waiting to hear when Collierville will start to pave our main neighborhood streets and will past it on when I have a better idea of the starting dates.  Once we get our streets paved, and now that our alleys are good and the fencing is new and the We Shed is built, we can just sit back and enjoy The Laurels for the next 15 years +.  We should not need to increase our HOA annual dues in the near future.
We will have at least 1 opening on the HOA Board for next year, so it is never too late to start thinking about volunteering to help keep The Laurels the premier neighborhood of Collierville it has become.  Let me know if you are interested.  We will vote on new members at the annual meeting in January.
        Thank you.
